Hannah Kaarina Yoken

I am a historian specialising in questions concerning gender and oral history. I currently work as an Academy of Finland postdoctoral researcher at the University of Jyväskylä. My project ‘A Farewell to Arms’: Anti-Nuclear Protest, Emotion and Gender in Finland, 1979–1987 (2023–2025) focuses on activities opposing nuclear war and nuclear power in 1980s Finland. I am also the principal investigator of the Emil Aaltonen Foundation funded project Lehtimiehet Oy, Everyday Politics and Gendered Media in Finland from the 1950s to the 1980s (2024–2026). My doctoral thesis (University of Glasgow, 2020) investigated the transnational development of feminist activism in Finland, Sweden and Denmark during the 1960s-1990s. I am the Chair of the Finnish Oral History Network (FOHN) and sit on the editorial boards of the Finnish Journal for Contemporary History as well as the Cultural History – Kulttuurihistoria book series.
