I am an EPSRC Fellow at Lancaster University and a leading superfluid scientist of my generation. My most publicised discoveries include half-quantum vortices, concluding four decades of searching, and time crystals and their interactions. My present research in Lancaster aims to answer questions such as “how does it feel like to touch quantum physics” and “can we melt a time crystal”. I am also constructing a superfluid-based dark matter detector and exploring the Early Universe by diving into the depths of the Superfluid Universe.
I am a passionate member of the scientific community. In 2020 I founded the UK Quantum Fluids Network, which aims to remove tribal boundaries between communities working on different macroscopic quantum systems and phenomena.
Popularising my research and explaining the work done by others in my field is a major part of my job. I enjoy answering general physics questions at science exhibitions open to the public and appear on established newspapers and outlets such as Forbes and BBC on a regular basis explaining contemporary science.
