My aim is to improve our prediction capabilities of space weather, or the effects of solar activity in the near-Earth space. Space weather is increasingly more important as it poses significant risks for the modern infrastructure, including satellites, power grids and GPS navigation.
My research focuses on the interaction between the solar wind and the Earth’s magnetic field by using satellite and ground-based measurements. This is challenging work because the measurements from various regions in space are very sparse. Therefore, I also use numerical models as a tool for understanding the measurements.
I completed my PhD in 2017, after which I have completed two research visits to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, close to Washington DC. At the moment I am working as an Academy of Finland Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Oulu.
