I’m a Doctor of Social Sciences and University Teacher in Contemporary History at the University of Turku, and Adjunct Professor (Title of Docent) in Political History at the University of Helsinki. My research focuses on the history of ideas, mentalities and emotions, and the interaction of politics and culture. I have written about Soviet cultural diplomacy with the Nordic countries at the outbreak of the Second World War, the Comintern’s undercover network in Scandinavia, and Finnish intellectuals and domestic politics in the interwar period. Beginning in 2020, I’m in charge of the project “Passion and Emotion in Finnish Secondary Schools, 1960-1975: The Breaking of the Emotional Regime in the Final Stages of the Secondary School System“, funded by the Kone Foundation.
