I work as postdoc in professor Satu Mustjoki’s research group Hematology research unit Helsinki. The focus of my research is the role of somatic mutations in lymphocytes in the pathogenesis of aplastic anemia and hypoplastic myelodysplastic syndrome. The role of somatic mutations is well established in the pathogenesis of cancer. However, according to our hypothesis, we believe that somatic mutations in lymphocytes may also affect the pathogenesis of previously mentioned hematologic disorders that have autoimmune features. We try to identify somatic mutations with the next-generation sequencing methodology and prove their significance in the pathogenesis.
