Dear Researcher, Welcome to the “Meet a researcher” service! By enrolling in the service, you can participate in a virtual visit to schools.

The purpose of the service is to enable the researcher’s virtual visits to schools and institutes with upper secondary education (general upper secondary schools and vocational institutions). Visits will be via video chat service (e.g., Teams, Meet, Zoom, Skype). The length of the visit is usually one lesson. To help the researcher prepare the lesson,  questions related to the chosen topic will be formulated by the pupils/students and shared with the researcher beforehand.

Researchers enroll in the service using the form in which they tell, e.g., their field and topic of research. In the next phase, the coordinator of the service matches enrolled schools and researchers with each other. The researcher and the school will get each other’s contact information and agree on the details (timing of the visit, topic, suitable video chat service). Once the visit has taken place, both the teacher and the researcher fill out the feedback form.

Researcher:

  • Enroll in the service by filling out the enrollment form.
  • Agree with the teacher on the details of the virtual visit (timing of the visit, topic, suitable video chat service).
  • Prepares the lesson after receiving the pupils/students’ questions from the teacher.
  • Performs the visit virtually.
  • Fill in the feedback form once the virtual visit is over.

School/teacher

  • Enroll in the service by filling out the form.
  • Having received the researcher’s contact information, contact him/her and agree on the details of the virtual visit (timing of the visit, topic, suitable video chat service).
  • Ask the pupils/students what sort of questions the chosen topic raises and share those questions with the researcher well before the visit. The in-advance questions facilitate the preparation for the visit and add to the level of interaction during the visit.
  • Arranges the lesson in which the virtual visit takes place.
  • Fill in the feedback form once the virtual visit is over.

By enrolling in the service, you give Young Academy Finland permission to handle your personal information as part of the Meet a researcher service. Your personal information will not be shared outside.
