In July we will be vacationing content with this spring’s accomplishments

Young Academy Finland’s offices will quiet down in July. Spring has once again been filled with international activities and impactful growth on the science education front. We also secured funding for a new project starting this autumn which will strengthen interaction between young scholars and journalists.

This spring the biggest news for Young Academy Finland was the 264 000 euro funding received from Tieteen tiedotus ry (NGO supporting science communication). The new project “Tiedon uudet kasvot” (new faces of knowledge) will kick off this autumn with the aim of strengthening both the interaction between young scholars and journalists and the science communication skills of young scholars. The project plan is partially based on the recently published report commissioned by Young Academy Finland, “Nuorten tutkijoiden asiantuntijuus journalistisessa mediassa ja kuntien valmistelutyössä – näkökulmia tutkimustiedon hyödyntämiseen ja sen kehittämiseen” (The expertise of young scholars in the media and municipal preparation process – perspectives on utilizing and developing the usage of research-based knowledge; Kärkkäinen 2026). A coordinator for the project will be recruited during autumn 2026.

As before, spring has been filled with international activities. In May, the Nordic and Baltic young academies assembled in Riga and the European academies in Warsaw. Our members took an active part in other international events as well; ideas and thoughts sparked by them are featured in our Reflections from around the world series.

Our Meet a Researcher service and online science journal Mene ja tiedä have continued to grow, and two new podcast episodes were released in the spring.

Twenty new members will join us this autumn. We are very much looking forward to the forthcoming autumn season but will nevertheless take a break first; our offices will be closed between July 1st and August 5th.

We wish all our members, friends, and collaborators a relaxing summer!
