The Young Academy Finland office will shut down again for July. The spring has been packed with everything from domestic public events to international networking, not to mention the continuation of the success story of the Meet the Scientist service. For the autumn, we promise at least more science education news!
The spring season of the Young Academy Finland is coming to an end, and the office will be closed from 28 June to 29 July. In addition to the three Academy Clubs, we organised two public events. In January, the Night of Science discussed the diversity of sources in non-fiction. In May, our EU election panel at the Oodi challenged EU parliament candidates to reflect on the direction of science policy.
In science education, the Meet a Researcher service continued to grow, and funding news ensured the continuity of the service. Our ranks were strengthened by a bilingual coordinator. Pool researchers were invited to celebrate the funding and reflect with us on the development of the service at the 5th anniversary seminar, where we also heard about the results of the recent evaluation report. In February, we launched a science education video for schools to mark the UN International Day of Women and Girls in Science and Technology.
The international networking front was also lively. Young Academy Finland staff and members visited Copenhagen for the Nordic-Baltic Young science academies meeting, Tallinn for a cooperation Symposium, Berlin for the European Young science academies meeting, and Geneva and Bern for the SYNESPOD network workshops.
In the autumn, 18 new members will join our ranks. Especially, if you are interested in science education, be sure to keep an eye out for more news in early autumn!
We wish a happy summer to all our members, friends and partners!
